This Arkansas quartz crystal point is a Dow with a Self Healed base. It has Fairy Frost and Mirror fractures inside that make me think of the cosmos. The outer surfaces of this crystal are smooth and buttery to the touch, reminds me of the feel of a Gas Phantom, but there are no sprays or other characteristic markings. It feels so smooth in your hand that it almost feels polished, but there are Lineated Sides and a little bit of Etching so I know this isn’t the case. It is just a naturally smooth crystal and it feels luxurious. I love it!
DOW (also called TRANS-CHANNELER)- This is an example of a crystal with two names for the same configuration. Called both Dow (named after Janeann Dow) as well as Trans-Channeler (because these crystals are both Channelers and Transmitters in configuration), is more commonly referred to as Dow. Dow crystals have three seven-sided faces with a triangular face between each of them. The sides of the six faces will look like seven-three-seven-three-seven-three. A perfect Dow or Trans-Channeler will have symmetrically-sized faces and a centrally located point. Some will be uneven in symmetry, but the count will be correct. Dow or Trans-Channelers combine the qualities of the Transmitter and Channeler crystal. Dow crystals provide a connection with the self and Universal Truth. Dow crystals have a special energy about them that is sharp, clean and direct.
SELF HEALED – Self Healed crystals are crystals that have been broken from the matrix and started to re-seal their broken end with new growth. A Self Healed crystal looks like it has scales or triangular layers. Self-healing can be present on the bottom, sides or even tip of a point or cluster. Self Healed points also present as crystals that were broken in half but sort of ‘glued’ back together with new growth. Self-healed crystals are good for healing, as one might imagine. They also have optimistic, persistent energy. A crystal that has first healed its own wounding demonstrates how we are more able to help heal others when we first heal our own wounds. We can take this lesson to heart in our own healing practice.
FAIRY FROST – Fairy Frost crystals have fractures and inclusions of air within them. The trapped air is wispy, white and fairy-looking. Crystals with Fairy Frost are sometimes called Devic crystals. Devic Temple crystals have a combination of Mirror Fractures, Rainbows and Fairy Frost. Lots of crystals have Fairy Frost. Some are more fairy-like than others. Crystals with Fairy Frost are able to connect you with Nature Spirits and Fairies (Deva). They encourage us to connect with nature and to care for Mother Earth.
MIRROR FRACTURES – Mirror Fractures are shiny mirror-looking areas within the crystal, caused by damage (shocks (sudden temperature changes), traumas (hits, shaking, shearing Earth movement). Mirror Fractures serve as areas on which to reflect on our traumas and show that our traumas and challenges bring us added beauty and interest.
LINEATED SIDES – Lineated Sides are horizontal striations across the sides of a point. Lineated Sides can be used like a zipper to access further knowledge within the crystal. If you have worked with your crystal for a while and feel ready for more information or feel a desire to go deeper, you can unzip the crystal to receive the next layer of information. I experience this as receiving a deeper knowing or understanding that seems to be released quietly after they are unzipped. If you drag your thumbnail down the side of a point with deep striations, you are ‘unzipping’ the crystal. To zip it back up, drag your thumb from the base back to the tip. This is like hanging up the phone after a conversation. It lets the crystal know you are ‘done for now’ and you can pick up where you left off later. I used to think that unzipping would be like opening a box and looking inside, revealing a few more items, and once you see them, that is all. It isn’t quite like this though. It is more like opening the box, looking down inside and seeing that the bottom of the box opens to infinite space. There is no end to the amount of ‘extra’ you can receive as you work with and unzip your crystal. It is literally like peeling an onion that has infinite layers. Just remember when you finish with your session to thank the crystal for its help, and zip back up until next time.
ETCHED – Etched crystals have abrasions on the outer areas of the crystal that look like hieroglyphics or writing of some sort. To me, Etched crystals (or the etching on crystals) is symbolic in that it looks like writing or takes other shapes. (For example, in the case of Lightning Strike, it looks like a lightning bolt zigzagging across.) I feel that the best way to use these crystals depends on the particular shape the etching takes (refer to SIGILS).
