DESCRIPTION: This is a free-standing crystal cluster corner piece which stands approximately 8.25 inches long by 8.25 inches wide. This item is a free-standing corner piece. The glass has been purposefully left unattached to the wooden base for ease of dusting the base and re-waxing/buffing the glass periodically. Use care when displaying or moving.
I’ve done my best to photograph this piece to display the color accurately, but it is difficult at best due to the nature of glass, lighting, photo resolution, etc. The actual stained glass looks even better in person than I could capture in a photo. Of course, if you are unsatisfied in any way, let me know.
COLOR: light blue and white
TEXTURE: Wispy (one color of opalescent glass with another color of cathedral glass with large streaks of color going across the glass sheet), Opalescent (dense with varying opacity may be milky with swirls)
WOOD STAND: gloss black, painted
PATINA: SILVER (no patina, natural lead lines)
A NOTE ABOUT THIS STAINED GLASS
This stained glass item was handcrafted using the Tiffany Method of Stained Glass.
(THE GENERAL PROCESS): First, we cut out and paste the pattern to the selected glass, then we cut and grind the glass. Next each piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil and soldered together using 60/40 (tin/lead) solder*. A patina may be applied to change the color of the solder. Finally, the piece is polished with a wax finishing compound** which gives the solder and glass a beautiful shine.
SOLDER: *Solder and patina will naturally dull over time. You can choose to leave it as is, but if you like the shiny solder lines, you can periodically buff them with simple car wax to maintain shine. (IMPORTANT NOTE: If your stained glass has patina applied (if the solder lines are any color other than silver) use only Carnauba (car) wax with no added polishing agents because you don't want the abrasion, it may lighten or remove the patina!) Polishing agents are ok if your stained glass has silver solder lines (silver = no patina). Black and copper lines are caused by patina which you don't want to polish away.
WAX: **This item contains lead. The wax finishing seals the lead and creates a protective barrier to slow down corrosion/oxidation. You should periodically rewax or buff stained glass suncatchers. That being said, obviously, lead can be harmful if ingested - keep out of reach of children (who tend to put things in their mouths), and wash hands after handling.
