STAINED GLASS CLUSTER HANGING SUNCATCHER 0008
- Customer Reviews (0)
DESCRIPTION: This is a small-sized sun catcher (approximately 7.5 inches long by 7.5 inches wide).
I’ve done my best to photograph this piece to display the color accurately, but it is difficult at best due to the nature of glass, lighting, photo resolution, etc. The actual stained glass looks even better in person than I could capture in a photo. Of course, if you are unsatisfied in any way, let me know.
COLOR: amber, dark root beer, striped light and dark
TEXTURE: Cathedral Glass amber colored (colored translucent glass), no texture, heavily textured (dark root beer), striped Baroque style (heavy texture along the surface).
PATINA: SILVER (no patina, natural lead lines)
A NOTE ABOUT THIS STAINED GLASS
This stained glass item was handcrafted using the Tiffany Method of Stained Glass.
(THE GENERAL PROCESS): First, we cut out and paste the pattern to the selected glass, then we cut and grind the glass. Next each piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil and soldered together using 60/40 (tin/lead) solder*. A patina may be applied to change the color of the solder. Finally, the piece is polished with a wax finishing compound** which gives the solder and glass a beautiful shine.
SOLDER: *Solder and patina will naturally dull over time. You can choose to leave it as is, but if you like the shiny solder lines, you can periodically buff them with simple car wax to maintain shine. (IMPORTANT NOTE: If your stained glass has patina applied (if the solder lines are any color other than silver) use only Carnauba (car) wax with no added polishing agents because you don't want the abrasion, it may lighten or remove the patina!) Polishing agents are ok if your stained glass has silver solder lines (silver = no patina). Black and copper lines are caused by patina which you don't want to polish away.
WAX: **This item contains lead. The wax finishing seals the lead and creates a protective barrier to slow down corrosion/oxidation. You should periodically rewax or buff stained glass sun catchers. That being said, obviously, lead can be harmful if ingested - keep out of reach of children (who tend to put things in their mouths), and wash hands after handling.
Hang sun catchers in a window. You may consider using a removable wall hanger (such as Command Strips). Suction cups are NOT recommended as they sometimes fail (which would be disastrous to your stained glass).
