This Arkansas quartz crystal point/cluster is exactly as it was when it came out of the crystal mine. No acid bath (almost all crystal has been through an acid bath to remove iron oxide, especially clusters) and not even a water bath in this case. It is just as I picked it up at the crystal mine. I believe this came from Ron Coleman’s mine here in Arkansas, found by yours truly.

This is what I call a point/cluster (1 large point surrounded by clustering). It is Empathic with some breaks and contact dings where it was separated from the matrix. It has Iron oxide (orange) and Manganese (black). It is a Devic Temple (has Fairy Frost, Mirror Fractures and Rainbows). There is still some Sandstone matrix attached. There are Keys and Bridges, and there are a couple of Side-Kicks as well. The sides are Lineated.

Energetically, this crystal feels grounding and solid. It kind of has a pistol-grip with your thumb resting on the Side-Kicks. Likes to be held between both hands, like in prayer. I like it!

You might choose to go ahead and give this point/cluster a bath to get the dust and clay off, and also you might want to give it a bath in something called iron out (very easy to do) if you would like the iron stains off. Some of the iron oxide is in internal fractures, and that won’t come off with the iron oxide most likely.

CLUSTER - Clusters are points growing together on a matrix. Some Clusters grow on a sandstone matrix, others on all quartz, and still others may grow from a ‘seed’ of crystal (like a mass of double terminated points). Clusters are good for helping with group dynamics. Families, co-workers, anywhere a group of people might need help in getting along. They are also good for raising the vibrations in an environment and bringing light and energy into that space.

EMPATHIC - Empathic (broken, chipped and otherwise damaged) crystals bring out compassionate feelings in us. The crystal picks up this empathy and amplifies it. Often the lesson of Empathic crystals is to remember to be compassionate and empathetic to our OWN chips, dings and perceived flaws and to remember we are still beautiful, whole, lovable and worthy.

IRON OXIDE - golden-yellow mineral coating occurring on lots of crystals, usually taken off with an acid bath. Sometimes has rainbow iridescence on the outer layer (like rainbows you see on oil slicks). This is referred to as “Natural Rainbow Aura”. These crystals have an Earthy and grounding energy and remind us what crystals look like in their natural state (before an acid bath).  Sometimes it is trapped in fissures and fractures and doesn't (can't) come off, even with the bath.

MINERAL STILL ATTACHED - Crystals with the mineral and rust still on (and clay in some cases) tell us to "remember where you come from". It speaks to many levels and layers. Where we come from physically, what we've been through, both emotionally and physically, where we come from in our past (this life) and where we come from ultimately (Spirit) etc. These crystals give us pause to reflect on our past and contemplate the residue of the experiences we have accumulated.

MANGANESE - Manganese is a dark black mineral often present on Arkansas crystal. A mineral of bonding, Manganese brings people closer together, activating the energies of cooperation in group efforts. Manganese stimulates spontaneity, creativity and enhances positive energy. Manganese produces a grounding effect which can help to balance the emotions and the physical body.

DEVIC TEMPLE - Crystals which have Fairy Frost, Mirror Fractures and Rainbows inside are called Devic Temples and are considered Master Crystals. Other sources have described them as "having special places for Light Beings to reside" (which they do). However, the description implies that only Devic Temple crystals have this ability, but in reality, all crystals do. Because all crystals have this ability/inclination, I like to put this reminder here. Devic Temples do have a special energy about them and usually have a lot of internal interest and a sharp, powerful feel.

FAIRY FROST - Fairy Frost is technically fractures and inclusions of air within the crystal. The trapped air is wispy, white and fairy-looking. Lots of crystals have Fairy Frost, some are more fairy-like than others. Crystals with Fairy Frost are able to connect you with Nature Spirits and Fairies (Deva). They encourage us to connect with nature and to care for Mother Earth.

MIRROR FRACTURES - Mirror Fractures are shiny mirror-looking areas within the crystal, caused by damage (shocks (sudden temperature changes), traumas (hits, shaking, shearing Earth movement). Mirror Fractures serve as areas on which to reflect on our traumas and show that our traumas and challenges bring us added beauty and interest.

RAINBOWS - Rainbows are present inside a crystal due to fractures. It is helpful to have very bright light, and you may have to turn the crystal (side-to-side, upside down, etc.) in order to see them. Rainbow crystals are optimistic and happy. They remind us that we are loved and they remind us to look for the gifts our traumas bring us. I think Rainbows are like secret hugs from the Crystal People. It is thrilling and warming. Connect to the gift of love these crystals with Rainbows bring.

SANDSTONE - Sandstone enhances creativity, helps build and strengthen relationships, truth and clarity of thought/sight, balance reality. Encourages ease of movement and change, promotes acceptance of humanity, discourages bad temper and grouchiness.

KEY - Keys are indentations left by another crystal. Key crystals help you unlock answers to questions you may have. They help you to access anything which you previously were blocked from accessing before you found the key. Is there an area which you could use help in accessing an answer which has previously been blocked to you? The energy of a Key crystal can help you to find an easier, more direct way in. Imagine this as easily opening the lock on the front door and walking right in (rather than having to check all the windows for one that is unlocked, climbing through, scraping your elbows and knocking your head). Ease of access is what Key crystal energy brings us. I like to put my finger in the Key as I work with the crystal. Meditate on the issue for which you need opening while holding the crystal in this way.

BRIDGE - A Bridge is a smaller crystal penetrating a larger crystal. They help to bridge between worlds (the inner and outer worlds between your Inner and Outer Selves or between yourself and others) and are helpful in any area you might imagine needing a bridge. They can help you heal and get in touch with your inner child (bridging the gap between your outer self and your inner self) and are also good for connection and perspective. Just like a physical bridge, they can rise you above the muck (or a difficult crossing), while providing a birds-eye view of a situation. While providing connection, they also help provide boundaries.

SIDE-KICK - This is a name that I heard many years ago but never found in an actual book as a traditional description. However, the term fits so well, I have used it over the years but never used it as an actual name and definition (never included it in any lists). Visually, a Side-kick is a partial crystal almost melded with the main crystal. Much less-defined than a Dolphin, a Side-kick doesn't really have a whole shape on its own but relies on the main crystal to make up for most of its body. There is enough of a crystal there to warrant giving it a name. Like the traditional definition of a side-kick (think Batman and Robin), a crystal Side-kick carries these energies: always being there to support the main crystal energetically, adds a component of assistance to the main crystal, has a 'buddy energy' or an energy of always being there for the other. A symbiotic relationship in which the main crystal takes "top billing" but where the Side-kick still plays a major role in the energy of the crystal.

LINEATED SIDES - Lineated Sides are horizontal striations across the sides of a point, to be used like a zipper to access further knowledge within the crystal. When you have worked with your crystal and feel ready for more information (desire to go deeper), unzip the crystal to receive the next layer of information. Drag your thumbnail down the side of a point to ‘unzip’ and to zip it back up, drag your thumb from the base back to the tip. Unzipping is like opening a box, looking down inside and seeing that the bottom of the box opens to infinite space. There is no end to the amount of ‘extra’ you can receive as you work with and unzip your crystal. Rezipping is like hanging up the phone. It lets the crystal know you are ‘done for now’ and you can pick up where you left off later. Remember after your session to thank the crystal for its help, and zip back up until next time.
